I really don't eat hotdogs that often and it was a nice alternative to my husband's favorite and a disgrace to food as we know it--Wienerschnitzel. The owner was really friendly and I loved that there were so many to choose from. I probably won't frequent this place, but the few times a year I crave a hotdog I will definitely end up here.

Phenomenal, authentic, real hot dogs. I had never been to Johniebeefs before and had no idea what it was about. I walked in and saw the menu, and was astonished at the number of choices I had in front of me. There are so many different combinations and flavors on the menu. Different kinds of dogs, with every single topping under the sun. I actually got two dogs just to try them both - i had a pizza dog and then just a plain old "utah dog" just so I could really taste the flavor of the beef without it being overwhelmed by toppings. Both were delicious. The service is great, and it really is a great spot for lunch. Filled me up, and the staff is super awesome and helpful. If you are going here for lunch, make sure you give yourself ample time as there was a line out the door when I went around 12:30. There is pretty limited seating inside, it is inside of a strip mall type establishment and there are only a few rows of tables with a few bar seats near the window. These are not your typical run of the mill hotdogs, they have tons and tons of toppings and you can literally order anything to suit your fancy. Grab a side of fries as well, they were pretty damn good. For the price, I can say this place has some of the best hot dogs I have ever had. Make sure to order the larger size hot dog if you really want to leave full. Or maybe order two of the regular size dogs. I need to go back and try a few more, as there are probably 30 different hot dogs on the menu. Awesome lunch spot for a great hot dog.

This place has never left me, or my friends disappointed. I've been frequenting Johnniebeefs for years, from the early days when they were in a gas station to their current location. My parents are from Chicago, so I grew up eating Italian beef sandwiches. When we learned there was a place specializing in the foods of our homeland, run by a fellow Chicagoan, we had to try it. And the rest is history. My friends are addicted to The Dytka, while I usually stick with the Italian Beef. I get mine wet, with sweet and hot peppers. They usually have a daily special, which is always a good bet. John is a good guy running a great establishment. Come in, get a hot dog (no ketchup!) and enjoy the flavors of Chicago.
(5)Lori H.
A solid 3 1/2 stars for me. First time visit since it's close to work. I had the Wisconsin Cheese dog, regular size and I'll say, it's pretty good. I didn't get the combo since it was a whopping $3.59 for fries and a coke which I think is outrageous. The dog was $3.99 so it would be nearly $8 for a combo meal and I wasn't about to pay that. I'll come back since there are other menu items I want to try.
(3)Alan G.
This was the last place we ate before going to africa, and the first when we got home. Best got dogs in town...we have followed him through 3 locations. Johnny is always there to greet us for a quick light meal.I miss the deep fried brownies though!
(5)Bret M.
Food was good. I liked my Italian beef sandwich but kids meals at $6 seemed a little steep. Fries were the best part of the meal...cooked perfectly. next time I may get a Chicago Chile Dog or Ditka.
(3)Jordan C.
Been to Johnnie Beefs a couple of times now. First time I had the Italian Stallion with fries. The stallion comprises a large Italian sausage topped off with roast beef topped off with some hot pepper mix topped off with some mozzarella cheese and dipped in au jus. It is very large. I am large. I couldn't finish it. The sandwich was hearty and good although the beef was a little dry and not as flavorful as I would like. Nonetheless the sausage was really good. In my most recent visit, I had the Stan Mikita special. It was an all beef dog with kraut, pepper mix, deli mustard, celery salt and a large pickle wedge. Somewhat like a Chicago dog but with kraut and without the tomatoes or nuclear relish. I also added the side of chili cheese, scratch that, chili mustard and onion fries. The Mikita dog was really good. Kind of hard to eat without making a mess. The dog casing had a nice snap to it and like a good beef dog should, had nice full flavor. The fries were surprisingly good. I would have never put mustard and chili together but they made for a great combo. All in all, this is a good place with good food. The owner is friendly and likes to chat. Nice casual atmosphere. I will also try out the other hot dog styles and sandwiches he has on the menu in the future.
(4)Jared P.
I came here on a yelp recommendation. It is a local boy's description of a Chicago Dog (for whetever its worth, ive never been to Chicago) but best Chicago dog that I've ever eaten. The thing that I loved more was the Dytka burger. My picky brother and I will be back to try something else soon.
(5)Tony L.
This is definitely an overdue write up for Johnnie. The new location is much roomy than the previous one at the gas station. Despite having less soda choices here, I think they were able to expand their regular menu significantly with the new kitchen here. I also like the extended dinner hours now. Everything else seems to be the same, and Johnnie was just as cool as before. Aside from the old favorites like the Chicago Fire dogs, I really enjoyed most of the new beef dogs with beef chili in it such as Coney Island and Dirty Dog. Fries with chili just made great comfort food that can turn around your day. Those little peppers really do enhance the overall flavor, and I would like to try all the dogs with peppers in them or add to all of my dogs. Aside from dogs, they also have grinder and hamburgers. I believe there are no better places other than JohnnieBeefs to grab a nice hotdog in this area.
(5)Andrey M.
Great brauts, awesome owner, good service, local. Please eat here over any of the dozen chain places that surround it.
(5)Charlie L.
Loved this place. My boss and co-workers were talking about Johniebeefs for weeks and kept trying me to go there because it was so great. I finally caved in and I am so glad I did. This is definitely the place to get a good dog. I stepped out of my comfort zone from a traditional hot dog and had a delicious dog with spice, onions, sauce and so much more. The owner recommended it based off of what I had previously and it sure increased my respect for the restaurant. He is as kind as it gets with boat loads of knowledge about each item on the menu. Definitely a great lunch spot. I highly recommend it!!!
(5)Jeffrey S.
It seems almost a crime to just call these hot dogs. They're so much more (and he doesn't limit the menu to dogs). Oh sure, you're going to find a few simple hot dogs on the menu. But you're going to see it go so much further. Let's keep with the simple: the guys is from Chicago. So if you're looking for a good starter, get that Chicago dog. It's nice. Then branch out to other flavors--the chili, the Hawaiian, and so on and so on. You may also want to grab an Italian Beef. It's not my top favorite, but it's a juicy sandwich piled with beef and sauce. Beware the grinder. Or anything with horseradish. They have a couple of different suppliers or sources, and the stuff I tried knocked me out. Such sinus sensation that I had never ever sensed before. I couldn't breathe. Not spicy, per se, but aromatic in an arresting way. Yikes. The guy is nice as can be. The food is great, cheap, and memorable. Plenty for the kids to eat, and plenty to keep you coming back to try.
(5)Pablo D.
Anyone who gives this less than 10 stars is nuts. You can't find a place like this anywhere. I highly recommend the makita. Best French fries as well. Beats portillos hands down. My only complaint is he needs more locations!!!
(5)Matthew S.
After three visits with no dissatisfaction I can safely say this place is an American gem. My last visit I had the Maxwell St, a fried Polish sausage with grilled onions and peppers. What a treat! The crisp, fried, natural casing sausage had a pleasant snap when first bit into, and was cooked perfectly. The sautéed onions were sweet and balanced the spice of the sausage well. The Classic Chicago is awesome as well, but grab some napkins because this pile of deliciousness is a messy one. Don't forget to ask for your sandwiches wet, the jus they dip it in makes the sandwich.
(5)Jordon M.
It is a fun enviroment. I had to wait a good amount of time for a hot dog and it was much smaller than I expected. I got the Tuscan and it had good flavors, but the meat was cold. Overall I was pleased, but I would have liked the hot dog to be hot.
(4)Nate S.
I don't know what else you want from your dog and wet beef shop. Ok, the dude whistles when he works. I hate that. Public whistlers are bad bad bad. I guess I could also blame him for the annoying Illinois transplants who travel the world Yelping that they are no longer in Chicago, but that might outrage the outraged Philly folks. Otherwise, it's all good good good. Two of us shared a cubby combo (Chicago and New York) and a 1/2 Italian beef and it was a messy delight. Next up, the Stallion. Seriously, I can almost tolerate the hideous visits I am now required to make to babies 'r us thanks to JohnnieBeefs.
(5)Joshua K.
The food is excellent and the choices different dogs can't be beat. Great family friendly service. Will be coming hear a lot I know it.
(5)Hang W.
Happy to see this third location bring JohnnieBeef's back to it's full glory of it's first location. While I will miss the soda selection of of the gas station, the expanded menu more than makes up for it. While some items are more authentic than others one thing they have in common is it's just simple good. The beefy chili that goes on various items is pretty tasty and rich. I like that the dogs are a decent size. While these aren't the cheapest dogs, they're quality but not fancy, fancy expensive. The cheap dogs you get at the chains are pencil thin but you get what you pay for. I recommend the QB since it has the chili and two slices of bacon. But what makes are the sport peppers, say yum. Despite all those toppings, you can still taste the dog. He has a Utah Dog which is just a dog with mustard. The real Utah dog should be the one with pastrami. Think of the famous pastrami burger but with a dog instead. Once you have a dog, don't be shy to get a burger as well, pretty tasty as well.
(4)Daniel M.
I'm from Chicago and this is the best ITALIAN BEEF in Utah! Check out my PORTILLO'S review and you'll see I know Italian Beef.
(4)Bradford D.
Two words: Chicago Dog. Having been born in La Grange Park, IL (a Chicago suburb), and after getting introduced to this culinary delight back in '73 (right there while visiting old friends in La Grange Park), I am a true lover of Chicago Dogs. JohnnieBeefs does a great Chicago Dog...poppy-seed bun, celery salt, sport peppers, all the right stuff...and great personalized service. Been going to his places for years now (the original storefront there in the Family Center) and the second place at the Texaco gas station. Gotta' try this new place soon!
(5)Jeff C.
Love this place!!! Solid every time. Italian beef sandwich is great, you can get it in a combo with a Chicago dog. Also tried the punky qb which is excellent. The fries are awesome. I have no beef with jonnie beefs. This is in my regular work lunch rotation. Highly recommended!
(5)Erin M.
Of all the wieners I've had in my mouth johnnie's premium beef dirty dog was the most satisfying.
(5)Ryan C.
There are two things I know in this world, sandwiches and sausage. This place does both right. An Old Style to wash it all down would be amazing but this is Utah which doesn't care much about accommodating thirsty Midwesterners. Damn fine place to eat though, it will become part of the vetting process so I know if a girl is the one to take back to Nebraska and meet mom.
(5)Oscar O.
Great italian beefs, great hot dogs, great fries, great prices. This place is lights out. Johnnie is a really nice guy and makes sure every order is authentic and lush.
(5)HD N.
Been to Johnnie a bunch of times, and always stick with the Classic Chicago dawg, and johnnie knows how to do it! Start with a plumb juicy dog, and cover it with the right amount of pickles, peppers, and celery salt, wrap it up in a tasty bun ... And there you have it. I would bet money that Johnnie's could take on most dogs in Chicago. If you are not feeling the dawgs, give the Italian Beef a try! I prefer mine dry, then i dunk it when I am right to chow down! Umm so tasty! Let's not for get to mention the fries, holy hot dammm! So good, have no idea how they make them, but I like a well cooked fry and johnnies has them. So don't forget to try them, which is easy when you mind is being blown by the Dawgs! Now they have more locations I will be back!
(5)Kim T.
Exciting to have finally found the Chicago dog and Italian beef right here in SLC ... thanks to Yelp. Don't agree at all with the negative reviewer here. My Italian beef was just as good as being back home ... wet with sweet peppers and giardinaire! Johnnie's customer service was A+ and full of personality ... his Chicago accent was an added touch. The real deal ... bomb!
(5)John C.
Not only great food but great service. Johnnie is very personable and makes sure that everyone of his customers is happy. I will go back often and try everything. There are a lot of dogs to choose from and it is hard to to choose only one. So be prepared to make a decision. I don't agree with some of the poor reviews below. Sure they are not going to be as good as Chicago style dog in downtown Chicago. But when he next best thing is a hot dog from Costco, Johnnie Beefs is like heaven in a Utah suburb. Support Johnnie, he is providing a better dining experience that is really hard to find in Utah.
(4)Ian C.
My review from the original location--- Incredibly good Wisconsin Cheddar dog. I'm not particularly a fan of this kind of menu too often. Really great. However, it was the superb treatment and attention of the good man running the shop that warrants a top rating. Despite being distracted with our toddler and unsure what to try he took extra steps to accommodate us and ask if we were happy with the food. Fantastic way to practice appreciation for your vital customer but further than that, value them as people!
(5)Daniel R.
I usually eat hot dogs at Costco. So this place was a step up. Not a huge step, but a little step. It had a Chicago dog vibe and was prices fairly. They didn't have a sesame seed free bun... I just wanted a plain bun.
(3)Melissa T.
Is there anything more American than a hot dog? I think not. This place is the place for a good quality dog. And boy they have so many kinds to choose from! A great stop in the Fort Union area for a quick and reasonably priced lunch or dinner. On my last visit, I decided it was time to try something new and exciting. I went for the italian beef wet and hot! My husband tried the Italiano sausage. We were very pleased. I maybe wouldn't get it so wet next time, since it made it a little sloppy to pick up and eat. Beef was high quality and delicious. My son got the kiddie meal and it came in a cool classic car (although he wanted a race car). If they had better fries (not a Kringle cut fan) they would be on their way to 5 stars. You can tell the owner really takes pride in his establishment and was very appreciative of our business. Service like that makes you want to come back. Support your local businesses!!
(4)Kevin S.
My family and I LOVE Johnniebeefs. We are Chicago transplants and this guy has transplanted that taste to the valley. There is truly nothing remotely close to it that I can think of. We've been coming ever since he first opened at another location. Good price, good atmosphere, crinkle fries...what more could you want?
(5)Varun Y.
This place is a gem in Fort Union. Definitely my go to hot dog place in the area. I ordered the "South Side" Grilled Chicken Sandwich. They told me from the get go that it would take a while to cook the chicken and I was perfectly fine with the notice ahead of time. The owner is originally from Chicago and he runs the local business well, treating his customers right. The chicken was well cooked and the accompanying ingredients in the burger complemented the patty well. I ordered the "famous" fries but didn't really think much of them. My friends ordered their dogs and absolutely loved them. Definitely would come again.
(4)John H.
The hot dogs are pretty good but the fries not so much. Overall the only thing I don't like about it is the prices. The prices are too high for hot dogs and a drink. If you lower the prices I would definetly come back.
(3)Michael W.
Me and my son had lunch there for the first time today. We both had the Italian Beef, sweet and hot peppers and onions. Mine was dry, Nic's was medium dipped. Sandwiches where rocking. The Beef was sweet and juicy. the French Roll was fresh. I like how they put the peppers and onions under the beef. Gentleman behind the counter was friendly and helpful. Defiantly going back...
(4)Ryan K.
Other than the fries, which are the not-so-great school lunch crinkle version, you can't go wrong with anything on the menu at Johnnie's. The Italian Beef (wet) is a messy accumulation of awesome, and the sandwich with the horseradish sauce cleared my sinuses and just about knocked me off my chair. And all of the dogs are delicious. Of course, you need to try the Chicago dog, but don't overlook the other tasty variations on the menu. And be sure to chat up Johnnie while you're at it. Mention the Bulls or Bears and you just made a friend for life.
(5)Brit B.
First I'd like to say it would probably receive 4 stars If I were more hot do obsessed, other than my usual once a month craving :) My love and I came about 1pm for lunch! Everything is separated on the menu. ..i.e hot dog, fries, drinks..so that makes it to be a little higher in price. I got the Chicago dog, a zucchini, and a water cup.. My bf got the chili cheese dog, fries, and water cup.. Equalling to 16.82? Not bad, not cheap. Was a good experience! Poppy seeds on the buns which made for a great surprise! I found though that my zucchini was better a few hours later after I reheated it. Seemingly friendly staff. Not over busy. I will be back!
(3)Zach H.
So I was introduced to Johnniebeefs about five to six years ago back when it was located near an Italian restaurant and I think a Jamba Juice, anyway enough of old location because the food is stellar no matter where John sets up shop! John himself is always there working and is always friendly and hey if you've never been he's sure to throw a suggestion your way. I tend not to experiment much with what I like, when I find something on the menu I usually stick with that item, not the case with Jonniebeefs from the Chicago dog to the Italian beef sandwich served hot and wet with some delicious giardiniera it's about as close as you can get to eating Angels. Oh and the chili cheese fries are amazing! You can tell just by the quality of the food that John cares about what he does and the food he serves. If you're in the area and looking to try some classic Chicago style food this is where you go, John has managed to place a little slice of Chicago fare in the state of Utah.
(5)Travis B.
They have a new location and it is great. They have fries again and all of the love a large Chicago man can stuff into your lunch (that is a lot of love). I usually get the Italian Stallion which is an Italian sausage covered with Italian roast beef and sprinkled with mozzarella and hot peppers. This sandwich is so good it make you question your faith, as an Atheist I think I saw the face of God in this sandwich, and he was smiling. Once you take a bite of the this delicious combo you will look around and the colors will be brighter and the birds will be singing a little bit sweeter and all will be right in the world. This sandwich will bring you true love back and bathe you in a light of love. Hell this sandwich is so good it may actually cure cancer.
(5)Austin B.
They were pretty slow for a hot dog place. The restaurant was full but there was no line when I arrived. Took about 15 minutes of waiting. The hot dogs were better than average, but not by much. We got "big" dogs, which were slightly thicker than ballpark. Other than that, ridiculously overpriced and slow. Will not be back anytime soon.
(2)Tim M.
Just as good or better than any Chicago Dog I have had anywhere else. John upfront was nice but seemed pretty decent and cared about the customer experience. I will go back when I am in the area and have a craving for a pretty good Chicago Dog.
(3)Brian L.
I've been coming to Johnnie's for lunch for over a year. The food is all great, can't really go wrong with anything! Only giving it four stars due to cost. $10 for a dog, fries and drink is a little steep in my opinion, but it's all so good that I keep coming back. Also, Johnnie is a way friendly guy!

Best Chicago dog this side of the Mississippi. And the only place I've ever found an Italian Beef sandwich comparable to the ones I used to eat in Chicago. Do your self a favor and get your taste buds here!

It was so good. I'm not sure where he gets his dogs from, but they're fantastic. I had the Bacon Chili Cheese Dog with fries and it was something else. The poppy seed bun and the chili worked so well with the meat. And the Zig Zag fries were killer. There's no way I won't be going back.

Let me clarify the low score here. The food was average to good. But the owner was extremely rude to his employees and even to me as a customer. I'm dismayed at times when I see a good business that could grow and be great and then to see it hindered by an owner that has zero leadership skills. My hopes for a great Chicago Dog were crushed by the atmosphere this owner created around him.

My friend Kirk introduced me to JohnnieBeefs a few months back and I've been eating here regularly every since. The owner Johnnie is always friendly and personable and he most definitely knows how to serve up some tasty dogs and sandwiches. One of my favorite dogs is the Hawaiian dog. It's a Chicago-style hotdog with bacon, onions, sport peppers, BBQ sauce, mustard and of course a generous amount of pineapple. It's tasty! When you visit Johnnie make sure and get a combo with french fries. I don't know what Johnnie does to make his fries so good but they are damn tasty! Seriously. Definitely get yourself some fries to go with that dog. If you want a good lunch that is well prepared and delicious, go visit Johnnie at JohnnieBeefs. The new location has a lot more seating and lots of parking too.

Fantastic authentic Chicago style dogs and Italian Beef sandwiches. You can order the traditional Chicago dog with onions, mustard, relish, sport peppers and celery salt or other choices like the New Yorkie, Wisconsin, or Utah dog. My go to is the Italian Beef sandwich with roast beef sliced thin on a french roll with pepper giardiniera and dipped wet or medium. I think medium and hot is the way to go.

The new location is great. They still deliver perfection in an Italian beef. Below is my still valid review from the old location. --------- Why didn't I know about the Italian beef here before now??? It's the real thing. Oh yea, the hot dog is mighty fine too. Now my food cravings for home are taken care of. I recently found the pizza at Sweet Home Chicago. Now I've found the hot dog AND Italian beef! When I get back to Chicago I'm looking for Italian beef before anything else. This place may get some bits made locally, but that's OK. It tastes right. I don't get the cucumber on the Chicago dog, but it's easily removed. The rest is just as I ate them for many years back home. The Italian beef is right on too. So, I'm sure the other dogs are just fine, but when you have the original, why stray?

I've been going to Johnny Beefs for years; this is now his third location. I'm a hot dog fanatic. I have a goal to have an authentic hot dog in every major city on the planet before I die and so far, I've had them in the Ukraine, Mexico City, Tahiti, Greece, etc. and yes, I've had a Chicago dog in Chicago and scores of dogs in New York. Johnny's are as good as any of them. The fries are average, but I'm not there for the fries. Now, when I go, I always get the big dog. To me the regular size dog doesn't get the bun/hot dog ratio right. That might be why a couple of reviews were on one about the dog being too small. They're right but I never get the regular! Johnny's a great guy. I really respect a business owner who is always there and really cares about his customers experience. Go support him! And no, I'm not affiliated with him in any way, I just love a great hot dog. ;-)

In Chicagoland, in the suburbs of Arlington Heights their is an amazing place called Johnnie's Beef (one of my top 4 Beef sandwiches) yelp.com/biz/johnnies-be… , unfortunately it has nothing to do with JohnnieBeefs in Cottonwood Ut. As someone who was born and raised in Chicago for almost 40 years and is new transplant to SLC, I was excited to see that there was a place that claimed to be an authentic Chicago Italian Beef place. It is unfortunately not. Its more like a place that someone who had visited Chicago once and had a beef went back to SLC and decided to try and recreate the sandwich from memory and store bought pre-made gravy. It was more a french dip than an Italian Beef. The bread crust was too soft and not crusty, the beef was rubbery (this comes from over heating it in the gravy) the gravy was bland, the sweet peppers were not tender or cut correctly, and their definition of dipped is on the dry end. For my family when we have a beef craving, from now on we will have it shipped in from Portillo's.

Went to Chicago last year and loved the Authentic Chicago Dog. Since then I've been on the search for a well made Chicago Dog in Utah and I have to say this is the best I've found. Didn't seem to lack much of anything. I got the sweet potato fries with my dog and the serving size was pretty weak. Other than that I was satisfied.

I'm a Chicagoan. Well, now I'm a Utahn, but I was a Chicagoan for 35 years first. Everyone seems to love the hot dog, which I did not order. I got the beef and my daughter had an "Italian sausage." The beef fell short of what I was hoping for (very bland, bread was way too soft) and what they called an Italian sausage was really a brat. I'm not going to rag on this establishment, but it's not home. I'm still looking for an actual Italian sausage. Unfortunately, like deep dish pizza, I don't think it exists in this state. I agree with Darin B., I'll just have to order from Portillo's online.

I love the Chicago Dog, but you can't go wrong with the slaw dog either. I really like coming here because Johnnie always comes to ask us how everything is, and remembers a lot of his customers. I only wish there were more places to sit. It is definitely worth going.

I've been wanting to try this after reading all the great reviews on Yelp. I had the Italian beef and my husband had the Chicago dog. My sandwich was very tasty, lots of beef on a good size roll. He enjoyed his hot dog, but I thought it was on the small side given the price. The fries are killer!!!! Fresh, hot fries with a slight kick of heat to them. Oh, do I love a good fry and these are unique. Sandwiches- good, but not outstanding.

A taste of Chicago in the Salt Lake valley. Great menu and an owner who really cares about his business and customers. John does it right!
(5)Gregg L.
Still the best Italian beef sandwich this side of the Mississippi River! I've been going here every visit to Salt Lake City, and now at his third location with new item on the menu - fries. For the non-meat eaters, he has some new vegetarian hot dogs which our expert says are very tasty! And vegetarians can try the chili fries without the chili, comes with salsa, cheese and hot peppers. Too good. with Everyone really liked the taste of the new fries, and all the Italian selections are just right! All sandwiches made to order, so much better than any other places that serve Italian beef sandwiches. Going back again before I leave town! This new location in Cottonwood Heights is much better than the one at the gas station. Lots of seating!

I'm a former Chicago resident. I thought I would never have the chance to get chicago hotdog unless I went back to Chicago. I was wrong. Johnnie beef fills my back home craving. Yum is the word. You won't go wrong.
(5)Sean L.
Wow, I'm pretty sure my life has changed for the better.. Italian beef sandwich, wet is the best thing I've ever put in my mouth! I'll be back for dinner...
(5)Chris V.
The owner is very friendly, he uses the same hot dogs as costco, then just makes them even better.
(4)Colt H.
The taste wasn't bad, but the portion to cost ratio was so ridiculous that you'd be better served walking across the street to Maverick and making your own hot dog.
(2)Boo D.
Everything on the menu is like a flavor explosion in your mouth! You have to try it! :-) the owner is super cool and did I mention EVERYTHING is delicious! :-) they have my business for life :-)
(5)Ces D.
First time to visit here. Their hotdogs are good and there's a lot of variety to choose from. We had a hard time choosing at first but I ended up getting the Dirty Dog, and loved it! Customer service is a little slow because there was already a long line when we got there, but the staff was really nice and friendly. I didn't give this a 5-star because I think for a hotdog, it is a bit pricey. $6 for a hotdog only and pay extra for the combo. We might come back here once in a while if we're craving for hotdogs.

John does it right! Close your eyes and you would swear that you were in Chicago. Hands down, the best Chicago hot dog outside of Chicago. The Italian beef is to die for. The food is always great, the place always spotless, and the owner always present. You can tell that this place is a labor of love.
(5)Phil I.
Support this local business. The hot dogs are as good as you'll find around here and the service is awesome. I've been visiting them since they rented space at the gas station. They won't disappoint.
(5)Jason G.
I keep telling myself next time I will try a hot dog. But I won't. The Italian Stalion is too good to pass up. John has been here everytime. I love it when you get to know the owner!

I love JohnnieBeefs. They serve seriously authentic Chicago-style hot dogs (pic) complete with bright green relish, sport peppers, celery salt, and a pickle spear. But there are over 15 other styles of dogs to choose from,. For me, it's hard to resist the "Chili Slaw Dog" (pic). Another favorite is the"Tucson Dog", which is sort like a Chicago Dog, but with bacon and mayo added. I also love the "Italian Beef Sandwich" with spicy giardinera, which is truly mouthwatering. Order it "wet" and they will dip the whole thing in the gravy that the thinly sliced beef simmers in all day long. His fries are always crisp and hot out of the fryer. He is not stingy with them either. I sometimes can't even see my dog under the mound of fries he puts in the basket. Love it. John, the owner, is really friendly and knows me by name. I've followed him from his first location, to the odd location inside a convenience store, to his current, and best, location on Fort Union. These dogs are spectacular. Really, the best I've ever had. JohnnieBeefs is good stuff, people. Make it happen.

Tucked away on the south side of Fort Union and just east of 1300 E. in a strip mall, lies this little gem. The decor is sort of bare with a touch of divey, though Chicago-esque things abound. It is a bit small and drink selection is iffy, but you're probably not really here for ambiance and drinks. As the name implies, if you're there, you're after beef. You're probably in the right place, because beef abounds here, with nearly every conceivable way to have in a sandwich-type setting. For my choices, I went with the much vaunted Italian Beef and putting something on the menu called a Spicy Dog is a pretty sure way of getting me to order it. I also ordered the sandwich as spicy as I could get it, but there was nothing challenging to me with either. The dog first. While this is definitely not going to keep Nathan's up nights worrying, the dog is very good. I would happily order one of these again and typically the bigger dogs are hit and miss for me. This one was a definite hit and though the spiciness wasn't especially there, it was pretty good tasting. They made my sandwich wrong the first time and so had to remake it and I'm not so in love with the sloppiness of the wet option, but everything, from the poppy bun to the meat was near sheer perfection. The toppings were a bit less good and I could have lived with the shredded mozz on it being actually melted, but it did not deter my enjoyment much. I only got a half because I was also having a dog, but it will be very difficult to steer clear of this when I get a chance to go there again. They also had some other very interesting menu items -- all of it at a stellar price -- that I could probably eat here for a week straight without getting bored. In a way, it's a shame they're not closer, but in another, more visceral way, it's a good thing they're not...

Everyone needs to come over and be converted to the church of Johnniebeefs. Everything I've had on the menu so far has been fantastic! The wet and hot Italian beef sandwich is by far my favorite and I have daily cravings for one. I always try any "New" items Johnnie has dreamed of. Come and be amazed by this hidden gem.
(5)Kerri S.
Delicious! Italian beef sandwich was to die for. Barbecue hotdog was amazing! Warning..."sport" peppers are HOT.
(5)Christopher E.
I've been here several times and never disappointed. The Chicago dog here is absolutely amazing. I find myself wanting to try others but I have a hard time breaking my Chicago dog habit!
(5)Scott F.
What a great experience! Upon entering I was greeted by Johnnie and mentioned it was my first time. Then mentioned I had a friend suggest the italian stallion, to which Johnnie suggested I try the chicago dog for my first time ( a lower costing item might I add!). What a great dog! It was crisp, juicy, with just a touch of spice. Ill be back soon!
(5)Ryan S.
Easily one of the best Chicago dogs I've had. Be sure to check out the daily specials, which are a great value. They've been around 7 years and are popular for a reason.
(5)Joe P.
4/5 only because the combos are a little overpriced for hot dogs. I love this place though. Highly recommend going once on a while.
(4)Brian E.
Great hot dogs all around! I had the Chicago dog and the cheese head, both were very good and filling! The prices are fantastic And the portions are good size. I highly recommend this joint when you need a great hot dog!
(5)BW W.
We're glad John is back in his own place. Full menu again and all the old favorites that brought us in weekly. The Italian beef is just like Chicago. Try the Maxwell Street Polish and the brats... oh, add cheese and celery salt to your fries!
(5)Deidra M.
Excellent! Great, improved selection w/new location. Must have the hot & wet Italian beef & Windy City burg. Clean interior.
(5)Lisa S.
Just had the "Grill It" Dog and it was fantastic! A little on the small side for the price you pay, but the quality was definitely there! I have also had the Utah Dog, and it was great. Love the food, and the service!
